Welcome to DV Behind Closed Doors™, LLC. My name is Toy Burks, and I am the proud founder of this company, created with a profound mission to raise awareness and provide support for survivors of domestic violence.

My Journey

My personal journey with domestic violence (DV) deeply influenced the inception of this business. As a black woman and a DV survivor, I experienced the pain and struggles firsthand. My two beautiful children, my son and daughter, witnessed the turmoil and endured the scars of DV before I separated from my abusive husband and finally divorced. Their healing and resilience inspire me every day to continue this important work.

Inspiration and Creation

The idea of "Behind Closed Doors" was born from my desire to make a difference. Watching "The Color Purple" resonated with me long before I personally dealt with DV. The stories of strength and survival portrayed in the film ignited a spark within me. Drawing from my own experiences and the support I found in my faith and love for JESUS, I developed "Behind Closed Doors" – an immersive digital simulation workshop designed to foster awareness and understanding of domestic violence.

Pride and Purpose

I founded DV Behind Closed Doors™, LLC, the first-of-its-kind immersive digital domestic violence program in our region. Our platform is a beacon of immersive education and compassionate advocacy in the battle against domestic violence. Witnessed by a growing demand from local and regional churches, colleges, political figures, moms' groups, influential individuals, and esteemed organizations both near and far, we extend a supportive hand and offer essential information to those seeking assistance—a cause deeply close to my heart. Acknowledging the transformative impact of organizations that once supported me, I am dedicated to aiding individuals in rebuilding their lives post-trauma.

Engagement and Impact

I have had the privilege to share my narrative at organizational fundraisers, conduct workshops, and engage with psychology experts, survivors, and perpetrators of domestic violence. Additionally, I have developed self-help materials, online courses, and educational videos addressing this critical issue. My relentless dedication to aiding survivors is not just a duty but a personal ethos, mirrored by DV Behind Closed Doors™ mission of fostering healing, empowerment, and enlightenment in the battle against domestic violence.

Innovative Tools

In shedding light on the reality of being a domestic violence victim, I created Vicarious™ and AI SEVEN™, two innovative tools utilizing modern digital technology to immerse participants in a survivor's experiences and offer emotional support and information via 24/7 chat advocacy during the most needed times of domestic violence. By encouraging understanding, sparking crucial discussions, inspiring proactive measures against domestic violence, and promoting healing from domestic violence, Vicarious™, SEVEN™, and DV Behind Closed Doors™ embody an overall aspiration of forging a world free from abuse.

Empowerment and Education

We take pride in empowering victim-survivors, mothers, friends, supporters, groups, companies, investors, and associations to educate themselves on domestic violence through our online courses, videos, workbooks, workshops, and AI chat advocates. Those interested in licensing our programs are invited to join us in combating domestic violence.

Statistics and Commitment

Statistics show that black women experience domestic violence at disproportionately high rates. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than 40% of black women will experience DV in their lifetime. This reality fuels my commitment to helping other black women navigate their journeys toward safety and healing.

Biblical Connection

My faith has been a cornerstone of my strength. The story of Pharaoh's sister, who saved Moses, serves as a reminder of the compassion and bravery that exists within us all. As a black woman dealing with DV, my faith grew stronger, and my love for JESUS deepened. This spiritual growth is woven into the fabric of DV Behind Closed Doors™, LLC.
